Elizabeth Goddard Farley, LMHC
I work with each individual client, using the therapeutic method best for them, to help them achieve their goals.
Licensed Mental Health Counselor, (MA license #5405)
Member of American Counseling Association, EMDRIA International, and a Diplomate Member of the American Psychological Association.
I grew up in North Wales, U.K. and studied Fine Arts at Manchester College of Art in England, Christianity and Philosophy at L'Abri in Switzerland and moved to Massachusetts in 1974. In 1994, after raising my family, I felt a strong calling into the field of Mental Health. I obtained a BS/MA in Mental Health Counseling at Lesley University, Cambridge, Mass. Still married after 38 years, my children have become successfully independent adults and I now find myself a grandmother of seven!
My strength lies in the combination of cutting edge training, substantial life experience, and rich working experience with diverse populations. Beginning at Children's Hospital, Boston, Mass, I have worked in a residential home for delinquent youth, a day center for adults with acute and chronic mental illness and various clinical settings. I also volunteered at Framingham State Correctional Facility for Women. At the personal request of the Chaplain, I made weekly visits for a year to a young lady involved in a high profile murder case.
Over the past few years, I have focused on couple's counseling and individual therapy for adult men and women in private practice. I am trained and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, level 2 (EMDR 2), which is a cutting edge treatment and focused intervention specifically designed for trauma and other symptomologies.
All these experiences gained me valuable skills and honed my personal therapeutic style. I often combine Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, Gestalt, Reality, Espressive Therapies and EMDR within a treatment plan. I have found this combination to be most effective especially with clients who struggle with anxiety, phobias, depression, loss or a past or present history of trauma.
I favor a holistic approach. That is, I encourage clients to explore and expand their spiritual understanding while gaining insight into the importance and balance between mind, body and spirit in the healing process.
